All love stories aside, a good breeding ratio for turkeys is about a dozen hens to one tom. It is better for the hens to have a higher ratio because the tom is considerably larger than her. Over breeding can be rough on a hen.

When Misha heard this news he thought to himself, ”I think I just won the Craigslist lottery!”

For now he has 2 ladies but I see many more in his future. He is a great bird. He watches over the hens and he has a calming presence for them. Especially Ktrina. Whenever anything spooks her, she runs, flies, whatever is the fastest, to get behind or near Misha. Tatiana runs behind me, and to be honest, I would fight a predator for her.

I think Tatiana likes me because she sees me as a good provider. Right now I’m working on a safe brooding area so she can stop laying eggs in the forest. I’m trying to find fake turkey eggs to encourage her to lay eggs where I want her to and can keep her safe. Stella got fake chicken eggs that we put in the nesting boxes to encourage the chickens to lay in that spot and comfort them from knowing that the eggs get removed. They work really well. I can’t even tell them apart sometimes and have accidentally collected the ceramic eggs and could only tell when I washed them.

We are also working on a new duck house. Mishe does not like ducks! He also does not like chickens! He only likes lady turkeys and he tolerates us because he’s pretty civilized. We all love Misha! He’s beautiful and amazing.
