Turkey Blog~Tatiana’s Epic Love Story~Everybody Loves Cool Ktrina

For Misha it was “love at first sight.”

Tatiana has been watching Ktrina and has become quite fascinated. They are always together now. Misha stays close by to Ktrina so the 3 of them have become a little flock. Tatiana is acting more like a turkey than she ever has. She is not quite ignoring me but is following me less and hanging out with her turkey friends. I’m very happy for her.

Both hens are ranging uncomfortably far and laying eggs all over the place. I collect them when I can find them and have a large collection of hatch eggs. We also have hatch eggs from the original blue slate hens on the hill, Tosca and Magrethe. You need to get them in an incubators within 10 days of collection/laying date or they are not very likely to hatch. When the hens get anxious because their eggs are gone, I wish I could tell them that we are taking good care of them.

We put 8 eggs in the incubator. I took the rest we had collected to Iowa and gave to my brother to hatch in his incubator. My “personal item” on the plane was a dozen hatch eggs and a bag of frozen berries to keep them cold but was not liquid. On my return flight I brought home a dozen hatch eggs from his chickens. Our family has always done interesting farmer behavior on airplanes. My grandparents luggage when they would visit was always full of cantaloupe and sweetcorn that they grew in their garden. They did large scale farming and the garden produce was a special treat that made them happy to share with us.
